QORVO uses the new high-performance small base station infrastructure products to lay the road to 5G

Qorvo, Inc., a leading provider of core technologies and RF solutions for mobile applications, infrastructure and defense applications, today announced new low-efficiency, small-cell front-end solutions for the wireless infrastructure market below 6 GHz. The product significantly increases efficiency, enabling base station manufacturers to enhance their existing 4G LTE infrastructure for higher bandwidth, coverage, throughput and capacity, especially in high-density, high-traffic areas.

Strategy Analytics predicts: "With the explosion of emerging 5G networks, the number of new base stations deployed between 2018 and 2024 will double. 5G relies on network architecture, including traditional macrocells, and supports below 6 GHz and Low power small base station in the millimeter wave band."1

New solutions from Qorvo include: Band 3 QPA9903 Power Amplifier (PA), Band 8 QPA9908 Power Amplifier, and QPL9098 4-6 GHz Bypass Ultra Low Noise Amplifier. The power amplifier provides 34% power-added efficiency, enabling a Power over Ethernet (POE) small base station architecture for high-traffic areas such as subways, train stations, and stadiums, or high quality of service (QoS) for in-house applications.

The power amplifier can be easily linearized using the DPD algorithm, and its performance is optimized to support wideband multi-carrier signals (as opposed to single-carrier 20 MHz signals). In addition, this highly reliable power amplifier can handle the problem of signal height mismatch at the output – up to 20:1 voltage resident waveform radio (VSWR). The rugged package can withstand the effects of a variety of harsh environments.

Roger Hall, General Manager, Business Unit, Qorvo Performance Solutions, said: "Our new small base station products further enrich Qorvo's cost-effective, system-level architecture solutions for wireless infrastructure. By expanding the bandwidth capacity of existing networks, customers can be more A cost-effective transition to 5G and the implementation of large-scale manufacturing expansion with the support of Qorvo."

As a 3GPP representative, Qorvo assisted in the development of 5G standards and worked closely with wireless infrastructure manufacturers, network operators, chipset vendors and smartphone manufacturers to lay the foundation for the 5G development path. Qorvo has assisted in dozens of 5G field trials, and Qorvo's 28 GHz product also supports the Samsung 5G MIMO demonstration at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
